1000 Women; 1000 Futures is a bold, justice‑driven initiative led by the Baba Mazari Foundation and championed by Zakia River Ahmad, created to confront one of the gravest human rights crises of our time: the systematic erasure of women of Afghanistan under a regime enforcing what global experts describe as gender apartheid.
In today's Afghanistan, women are being pushed out of schools, universities, workplaces, public life, and even the simple right to move freely. Their futures are being deliberately suffocated. Yet despite this brutality, the women of Afghanistan continue to resist — quietly, courageously, and at immense personal risk.
1000 Women; 1000 Futures exists to meet that resistance with action. The campaign aims to support one thousand women of Afghanistan through:
Safe, accessible education for girls banned from classrooms.
Sustaining the secret networks keeping learning alive.
Opening academic doors that the regime has slammed shut.
Enabling displaced and at-risk women to study safely.
empowering those who were denied opportunity long before today’s crisis..
The Afghanistan diaspora cannot look away. Those living in safety abroad carry a moral responsibility to use their freedom, platforms, and resources to uplift the women of Afghanistan whose voices have been forcibly silenced. Diaspora action is not charity — it is solidarity, justice, and remembrance.
Join the MovementAt the heart of this movement stands Zakia River Ahmad, whose historic summit of Mount Everest — as the first woman from Afghanistan to reach the top of the world — became a global symbol of defiance. Her climb was not only a personal triumph; it was a message carved into the sky itself: The women of Afghanistan rise, even when the world tries to bury them.
Her leadership fuels this campaign with the same courage, clarity, and unshakeable belief in what Afghan women can achieve when given the chance.
Join the MovementGuided by the Baba Mazari Foundation's long-standing commitment to justice and equality, 1000 Women; 1000 Futures is more than a campaign — it is a collective refusal to let an entire generation of women disappear. It is a promise to stand with them as they reclaim their futures, their dignity, and their rightful place in society.
Your support - whether through funding, advocacy, or amplifying their stories — becomes part of a global movement of solidarity. Together, we can help unlock a thousand futures, and with them, a thousand new possibilities for Afghanistan’s tomorrow.
